How to choose interior blinds: a practical guide

Interior blinds are one of the most practical ways to control light and privacy at home and in the office. Thanks to adjustable slats, you can easily control the amount of light entering the room while adding a modern design element.

What to consider when choosing interior blinds

The choice of blinds affects the appearance of the interior and how we feel in the space. There are differences between individual models in terms of material, design, functionality, slat dimensions, and maximum total shading area. It is a good idea to proceed step by step when making your selection, which is why we have prepared a clear guide for you. Here are the main parameters you should consider:

1. Size of the area to be shaded

All our blinds are made to measure according to the measurements taken by our technician. For larger areas, such as large glass walls in family homes or offices, it is necessary to check the maximum width and height of the area to be shaded for the selected model. The largest area (up to 3.5 meters wide and 3 meters high) can be shaded by aluminum INT-50 blinds.

2. Slat width

Have you noticed that some of our blind models also include a two-digit number? This indicates the slat width. Narrower slats (e.g., 25 mm) are suitable for smaller windows, while wider slats (e.g., 50 mm) are more suitable for large glass surfaces. The first reason is aesthetic. Wider slats would look somewhat clumsy in a narrow window, and conversely, narrow slats on a large surface can give a fragmented impression. The width of the slats also affects the intensity of the shading. It's simple: the more gaps there are, the more light will slip through the blinds. Narrow slats are also not suitable for large areas because they can bend when they are longer.

3. Material

Aluminum blinds are modern and minimalist, durable and easy to maintain, making them a great fit for most interiors and easy to combine with furniture or metal accessories. Bamboo blinds, on the other hand, create a cozy impression and are ideal for those who prefer natural materials and want their interior to look harmonious. They go well with wooden furniture and other natural elements, giving the whole space a unified and elegant look.

4. Need for Shading

If Shading is important to you, check whether the slats have cutouts around the cord guides. The IDX and MAX models do not have cutouts, so they provide a high degree of Shading, which you will appreciate especially in bedrooms or south-facing rooms.

5. Top rail type

The top rail of blinds has both a practical and aesthetic function. It covers the control mechanism and completes the overall look of the blind. There are several rail options to choose from, which differ in shape and material. For modern spaces where design plays an important role, the rondo bar with its elegantly rounded shape is ideal, discreetly concealing the mechanism and creating a clean and sophisticated look. MAX blinds come with a rondo slat as standard, while for IDX models you can choose it as an optional extra. The classic square slat is a simple and functional solution suitable for most interiors. Bamboo blinds are equipped with a smooth matching slat also made of bamboo.

6. Control method

The choice of blind control method depends primarily on the size of the shaded area and the level of comfort you expect from the control. For smaller windows in homes, the most common option is the classic chain, which is simple, reliable, and easy to use. For larger blinds, which require more force to operate, a handle is often used, allowing for smooth and comfortable adjustment of the slats and the position of the blind.

Electric control is available for the MAX and Mono SC models. This allows the blinds to be controlled remotely or even connected to a smart home system.

7. Child safety

Child safety is an important factor in the design of modern blinds, which is why all Proklima interior blinds are equipped with a special safety mechanism. The control chain is detachable, which means that it automatically releases when pulled too hard, eliminating the risk of accidental entanglement or injury to children. This inconspicuous but highly effective feature ensures that blinds remain not only a practical and aesthetic addition to the interior, but also a safe choice for households with small children.

8. Installation

Blinds can be attached to the window frame, wall, or ceiling, or without drilling using brackets or adhesive tape. This is a great option for rentals or where you don't want to drill. You can discuss specific options and preferences with our technician during the measurement.

9. Color scheme

The color of blinds has a significant impact on the atmosphere of an interior, which is why we offer a wide range of slat and rail colors that you can match to your window frames, furniture, or the overall style of the room. When choosing a color, it is also important to consider the functional aspect. Light-colored slats reflect more light and help to visually enlarge the room. Neutral tones such as white, cream, or beige have a timeless effect, brighten up the space, and are the ideal choice for minimalist or Scandinavian-style interiors. If you want the blinds to play a more prominent role in the room, you can opt for rich colors such as anthracite, yellow, or red, which will give the interior a distinctive character.

Fabric blinds

Fabric blinds consist of a continuous piece of fabric and can therefore appear softer and more cozy than blinds. They are suitable for bedrooms, children's rooms, or living rooms where you want to dim the light rather than precisely control its direction. At the same time, you have the option of choosing from a variety of patterned fabrics. Blinds, on the other hand, offer flexible shading, which is important in a study or kitchen, for example.
